The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami Dade County Mayor.

It might not have been at the identical stature as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the county's top official had her own presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a current administration.

“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a long and happy life free from concern.”

The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The pig, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people yelling “6-7” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.

A New Life

The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to begin the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.

“It captures the essence of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Every time, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”

Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they toasted the pig's pardon.
