Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Defeat
Arne Slot conceded that it was understandable for concerns to be raised about his future following another convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in 12 games, representing the team's poorest run after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I have got plenty of support from management,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to change things and get a victory obviously but if you are working as a coach and struggling then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I am OK with my role. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Talks with The Board
When asked to expand on his dialogues with the team officials, the head coach explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard discussions I feel the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat yet so we'll see.”
Persistent Problems and Player Response
Slot lamented known shortcomings from his team in their Champions League defeat, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” Jones said.
“It is not good enough. I don't have to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the words.”
He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a spell such as this with outcomes so bad.”
Jones stated, “But we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as it is gone, we’re always going to fight.”
“We’re going to try to get this team back to its rightful place, demonstrate to all again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”
“At this moment, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
