Liverpool Refuses to Alter Offensive Approach In the Face of Current Struggles, Insists Slot
Arne Slot has revealed that the club's hierarchy are aligned with his perspective regarding the poor performance streak and he will not abandon their offensive approach in pursuit of a solution. The manager acknowledged that six losses in seven outings was unacceptable ahead of Aston Villa's visit.
Increasing Scrutiny Amid Tough Spell
The manager acknowledged the expectations were high before his makeshift team exited the Carabao Cup against their Premier League rivals. However, he maintained that this urgency to stop the losing streak is not coming from the team's proprietors or executive leadership following a significant spending of nearly £450 million.
"They say similar things," commented the manager, whose squad will encounter Real Madrid in the Champions League and play against the Citizens in the English top flight.
Squad Quality Continues Unchallenged
Slot believes his team "have an unbelievable squad if they are completely available and all ready for the programme we are facing". He said that the transfer window acquisitions in footballers like Florian Wirtz and the Swedish striker, who is expected to be sidelined again against Villa through injury, had left the club "in such a good place for the short-term future and the distant prospects".
Gelling Difficulties
When asked why his team were struggling to integrate, he replied: "That's not particularly helpful. 'Why, why, why?' I provide reasons and people say I'm making justifications. I can identify multiple factors why we are underperforming or losing as much as we do but, as I always emphasize, there are inadequate reasons to have a results sequence as we had now."
- Regardless of whether I could identify 200 excuses
- When you are Liverpool you must avoid losses
- The reality is six out of seven
Defensive Statistics
Only the Clarets (twenty-one) have conceded more clear opportunities from regular play this season than the Merseysiders (19). The first-place team, Arsenal, have allowed just two. Yet the manager disputes the defense has been too vulnerable and claims there is no basis to compromise forward-thinking approach for a defensive approach after ten matches without a goalless performance.
"In my view we're not conceding a lot of chances so I find no basis to alter our approach entirely but we have to enhance in preventing goals," he stated.
Particular Cases
"Versus the Red Devils, how many chances did we concede? Versus the German side when we were 3-1 up, we barely allowed a shot on target. In each fixture we have competed in we haven't given up a lot of chances. Not at all. We do allow a bit more than the previous campaign but that stems from us being trailing by a goal so you take a bit more risk. But overall I don't feel that our problem is that we concede too many chances. Our problem is we are unable to finish the chances we create."
