Iran is ready to reinitiate atomic talks with the United States as long as it is approached with "respect" and "honor", Iran's top diplomat has stated.

Abbas Araghchi declared only diplomacy was effective, and revealed fresh requests had been made by intermediaries to resume negotiations with the Trump administration. He claimed Iran did not have secret atomic facilities, and Iran had not yet reached a point to permit the global atomic watchdog to access bombed nuclear sites for safety concerns.

Navigating a Complex Path

The foreign minister is walking a complex route since Iran wishes not to be seen to be acting from a situation of vulnerability, and he emphatically stated that Iran had come out stronger defensively and psychologically from the Israeli-US attack on its enrichment centers in June.

He was speaking at a security conference in Tehran where he restated that Iran had "a fundamental entitlement to enrich uranium within its borders that it will always maintain" – the primary cause of the deadlock in the previous talks.

Earlier Negotiations Unexpectedly Concluded

The earlier sessions of discussions between the US and Iran were concluded unexpectedly and bitter termination on 12 June when the Israeli government, with Washington's assistance, struck Iran's enrichment centers in a 12-day war that concluded with the US president declaring the facilities had been eliminated. Afterward, EU nations employed their privilege to restore international penalties, but Iran insists they have not had a significant effect.

Ideal Resolution Offered

Iranian officials claimed they felt they had reached a "perfect agreement" to the uranium processing matter in prior discussions, when it was decided an local partnership with US participation could enrich uranium. Each party would have been able to claim victory since home-based processing would have continued and the US could be confident that Iran's nuclear programme was exclusively peaceful.
