Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Ignites Intense Discussions Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a new game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but includes several key changes:

  • Each team has just 8 human participants, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by real players award complete experience points, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
  • Only two locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Features like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.

In short, this mode delivers on its name: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, since it gives additional choices for gamers seeking different ways to have fun with the game. However, if video games have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many Battlefield 6 players are upset.

Community Responses: Anger to Support

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," reads a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," while someone else lists everything they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."

However, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this title all the time. Let them find a middle ground," states another. A response via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Concerns and Community Feedback

All that said, there are constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase queue times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists currently available. Similarly, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was promised to provide full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the community compromising halfway, according to forum feedback. A different user describes this addition as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?

Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and acting on player input. Tasks being too difficult got fixed very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data shows this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
