AC Shadows Reveals Unexpected AoT Crossover for Holiday Season
In a unexpected collaboration that challenges traditional predictions, Ubisoft has unveiled an virtual partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the acclaimed anime series Attack on Titan. The surprising holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, including complimentary additional story content for Shadows players.
Strange Adventure Revealed
According to the authorized release, "An unusual encounter pulls characters Naoe and Yasuke into a new mission, where rumors of banned practices and fearsome metamorphoses resonate through the darkness." The narrative introduces a "oddly garbed woman named Ada" who assigns the duo with traveling into the Gemstone Grotto—a significant location from Attack on Titan—to save her companion from a clandestine group.
The adventure centers on "strange tests and a monstrous enemy" and is available to all players who have gained access to the Yasuke character.
Iconic Settings and Changes
The preview showcases the Underground Chapel from Attack on Titan recreated as the Crystal Cave. This historic location was earlier where the Reiss royal family transmitted the Founding Titan ability through eras. The preview finishes with a striking sequence showing a character, probably the hostage, morphing into a Titan that rises over Naoe and Yasuke.
Unique Rewards and Additional Content
Players who successfully complete the mission will obtain an unique katana together with several items secreted throughout the area in secret chests. The update also features in-store Attack on Titan item packs, offering:
- Titan-themed outfit for Yasuke
- Mikasa attire for Naoe
- Special weapons
- Survey Corps vehicle
Latest Free Story Addition
This update also introduces the game's newest free story content, titled "A Puzzlement." This playful adventure teams Naoe and Yasuke as they exchange signature techniques: Naoe introduces a theatrical variation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke acquires non-lethal stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "A Puzzlement" also features a original environmental puzzle that may eventually explain some unanswered questions from the main storyline.
Earlier Japanese Animation Crossovers
This marks scarcely the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has partnered with well-known anime series. The series formerly showcased a 2020 collaborative story connecting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Furthermore, Valhalla subtly contained a quest that clearly nodded to the well-known series One-Punch Man.
